The Lowlands or Tihama

Along the Red Sea lays the Tihama, “low terrain”. The African presence, from across the sea, is visible through the hut villages. In Al Hodeidah, it is a must to see in the morning, the assisted arrival of fishermen, who are bringing sharks and manta rays… At Bait Al Faqih is the most animated souq of the Tihama.

Zabib, founded in the 9th century, was the primary cultural and religious center. Its architecture is particular; the low houses are organized around an open area, the white facades are decorated by the clever placements of bricks.

Khawkha one of the rare palmary of the Red Sea, is equipped with a small seaport.
